[Policy] One Meter Rule Webinar and Report from Queensland

I too just skimmed the Exec Summary.

It would be good to ask the following, particularly since MPI is footing the room to breath campaign ( after BW embarrassed them with its bus campaign):

1. Where is the detail and evaluation of the social marketing (ads) that educated the public on the legislative change ( or did they just rely on the law change without PR support)?

2. If PR was done, did the authorizing entity ( who was it?, police, insurer, infra?) educate drivers to wait behind the rider when it was unsafe to pass ( as is done with cars/motorbikes, and required in other 1meter jurisdictions' rules?

3. When riders were passed properly, do they subsequently NOT take the lane at the next corner ( essentially going against the curb and setting up for a right hook or close Pass inside the intersection)?

4. Of the cars that did pass "too much", did they make a full lane change? Would that be a more effective rule for drivers to understand and obey, similar to passing motorcycles?

They had problems with before/after analysis, and hadn't had time to review collision data (they might update this in the webinar), although a preliminary result shows a drop in collisions state wide (which they can't attribute to this or any other policy/change).

Then a number of bicycle safety research projects will be discussed, with a particular focus on recent and current projects that seek to examine the factors influencing passing distances left by motor vehicles and the effectiveness of one-metre (3-foot) laws.
