Hello BW Policy Committee members,

It has been too long since you have heard from me; for that I apologize. Other commitments and challenges in my life have had to take priority and I have just not had the time to keep plugging away at the policy committee work, important though it is.

Those of you not on the board may not know that I tendered my resignation from the Bike Winnipeg board as of this month's AGM. I had been hoping that, prior to then, I could push forward even slightly on the work done to date towards a Snow clearing / winter cycling network maintenance policy but I have been unsuccessful.

Therefore, I am attaching the 16 pages of notes that I collected from various relevant sources (many originally from Mark) as well as a partial early draft of a position statement that I shared with Mark a month ago. Hopefully this will help guide future work by the committee.

At our last meeting in January, in addition to my work on snow clearing, Gord was focusing on a position statement related to a one metre passing distance, and Bill was working towards a way marking position statement. I have not heard if either of these drafts are at a point that they could be shared with the Committee.

Given that both Bill and I will be leaving the board imminently, I will leave it up to Ian who is continuing on as Co-Chair to contact the remaining Policy Members following the AGM. Hopefully there will be some fresh "blood" on the Board and Committee to move this work forward.

I want to thank all of you for your efforts over this past year in particular. Although I am disappointed that I stalled out in 2017, we did get 5 position statements approved by the board in 2016, so a positive start was made.

Though I will be formally leaving Bike Winnipeg, I want to continue to contribute where I can to cycling efforts in our city, so I hope I will run into you along the way.

All the best,

Laura Donatelli

Dear Mark and fellow board members,

Despite my previous agreement to stay on the board past April, I have now come to the conclusion that I must resign as a director as of the April/17 AGM. I do hope that there will be others who step up to fill the vacancies that exist. I have very much enjoyed my past 3 years on the board and am committed to continuing to support cycling advocacy and activities in Winnipeg as my volunteer time allows.

Laura
