Hi all,
I've been thinking about our budget format and have mentioned a couple
ideas. For background, relative to 2020's budget
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1J4EtG9mcF38TWag6aGuXLjZhOfi4A2SAnmQWGn6qEg0/edit?usp=sharing>,
2021's budget
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uM68lfVXBXnL14jWPPQdZxwf5lCyj4kAPY1-_t2FIeg/edit?usp=sharing>
featured a few format updates:
1. Reorganizing activity categories into our major programs
2. Splitting expenses into the 3 categories (charitable, mgmt+admin, and
fundraising) to make it easy to comply with CRA reporting requirements
3. Comparing gross revenue, expenses, net revenue and salary expenses
against these 3 expense categories
4. Comparing expense categories with salary expenses
For 2022's budget, a few thoughts that I've shown in a draft format
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1f4lkSAWekEgmkv1SsRArQz2DD_GaIl2HElo-5hedvsY/edit?usp=sharing>
:
5. We could identify the links with bylaws and policies (including the
current 3-year Strategic Plan) so that we make sure we include any
policy-related
6. We can add a few simple outputs to some budget lines so that we can
start building the relationship between financial inputs and activity
outputs
7. We could update our expense categories again; perhaps to align with BW's
currently-in-development program map (here's one rough draft
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1J22pMf8y_QAz-cV_rRPmMnFlsBe6FyFIyZhLd2yW4Dw/edit?usp=sharing>
and a second rough draft
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jkk6FxayONffcehPrHUMUwQWIW0HSME5sHki9IbRlCw/edit?usp=sharing>
- neither are in good shape yet).
That's all I can think of. Any thoughts?
In terms of budget *numbers*, it appears that we really have to keep
expenses down and focus on the #1 priority of keeping the lights on, but we
can certainly grow our budgeting *framework *:)
Cheers,
Clayton
