Hi Jeff,
I was glad to hear that you are interested in helping out with the policy work of Bike Winnipeg and I hope I get a chance to meet you in person at our next Board meeting.
The Policy Committee is currently composed of myself, Ian Walker our board co-chair, Bill Newman our board treasurer, and Gord Friesen who, like you, is not on the board but, most helpfully, works on community/traffic issues with the Winnipeg Police Service. You will be a welcome addition to our small group.
This past year we have been working on a few different position statements, the first three of which can be found on our website at http://bikewinnipeg.ca/position-statements/#sthash.1Myyv4Ix.dpbs, a 4th which has just been approved on Diamond Lanes (it is not yet posted but I have attached it to this email), and a 5th on mandatory bicycle helmets which is now before the board pending approval.
Moving forward, we are now working on three more: one on snow clearing of AT routes, one on way marking, and one on legislating a 1 metre safe passing distance. We tend to take turns taking the lead to research and draft various positions, and then debate our "straw dog" at policy committee meetings, which tend to be held on a weekday evening at one of our houses. Our next policy committee will be scheduled after I get a draft of the AT statement out to the committee, something that I am very slowly moving toward. I will probably use a doodle poll to do so.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, give me a call at 204-952-6487 or drop me an email.
Cheers, Laura Donatelli

I met with Jeff Buhse last night, to follow up on his interest in volunteering. He has lots of experience in environmental action, and is an experienced city cyclist. We agreed;
· He would like to work on policy, so Laura; can you please add him to your policy committee.
· He works at the U of M and bikes there most days of the year, so he would be willing to help promote better bike routes to UofM, and encourage interested parties at the University to get engaged. Mark; could you please give him a briefing on the various projects of interest, including RT, the bridge, the Grant park tunnel idea, and point out next steps requiring action.
· He will come to the next board meeting to meet folks and see more of what is going on.
A great addition to BW.
Charles
